KML files containing the public rights of way of North Northamptonshire

In 2021, Northamptonshire County Council was abolished and two new unitary authorities created in its place: they are North Northamptonshire Council and West Northamptonshire Council. These two authorities are responsible for the public rights of way that are in their area.

The council of North Northamptonshire have provided me with a zip file that has two sets of MapInfo files. The "202403143/ROW North.*" set of MapInfo files have the details of their public rights of way. The MapInfo files seem to have been created on 23rd August 2024.

The council also provides information about public rights of way on an online map that can be accessed using the "interactive mapping system" link on this web page. It may be that their online map uses more up-to-date information.

An authority's Definitive Map is the authoritative source of their rights of way. The details of the public rights of way network contained in an authority's data are for information only, and are an interpretation of the Definitive Map, not the Definitive Map itself, and should not be relied on for determining the position or alignment of any public right of way. For legal purposes, an authority's data does not replace their Definitive Map. And changes may have been made to the Definitive Map that are not included in their data. The authority's data contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2024. Attempting to view this data with more detail than 1:10000 may produce an inaccurate rendering of the route of a public right of way.

The council of North Northamptonshire have informed me that the MapInfo files are made available under Open Government Licence. So it's possible for you to use this data provided you give the attribution that the data has been provided by the council of North Northamptonshire.

I have transformed the "202403143/ROW North.*" MapInfo files into a KML file.

When producing the KML, I have used OSTN15 to transform OSGB36 to WGS64.

I have converted this KML file into the basic KML format that is used by this web site for all authorities. For each public right of way, this basic KML format has the name of the authority (North Northamptonshire), a unique number within the authority for the public right of way, the name or number of the parish/community, the name or number of the public right of way, the type of the public right of way (i.e., footpath, bridleway, ...) and any additional information about the public right of way that I've obtained from the data supplied by the authority. Here is a link to the converted KML file for North Northamptonshire.

This KML file has been augmented with additional information. For each public right of way, the augmented format also includes its length (in miles), the longitude and latitude of its first point, the longitude and latitude of its last point, the eastings and northings of its first point and the eastings and northings of its last point. Here is a link to the augmented KML file for North Northamptonshire.

This web site also provides information about the public rights of way of North Northamptonshire in GPX format, in CSV format and in GeoJSON format.
